CECA Wales Activity

On the Thursday (14 June), the Constructing Excellence in Wales Annual General Meeting was held, and the CECA Wales Director Rhodri-Gwynn Jones and Andrew Wedlake (Galliford Try) were re-elected as Board members for the next twelve months.

On Friday (15 June) a meeting of the CECA Wales Executive Committee was held. As part of the proceedings members discussed procurement issues with Russell Bennett, a senior member of staff in the Directorate of Communities and Local Government in the Welsh Government. An Action Plan is to be drawn up to enable further consideration by the Welsh Government.

On Monday (18 June) CECA Wales director Rhodri-Gwynn Jones participated in exploratory discussions with the Welsh Government, ICE Wales Cymru, CSkills Wales, Bridgend and Neath Port Talbot Colleges, relating to the setting up of training opportunities for apprentices which align with progression onto technician membership of ICE. A pilot scheme could be up and running by September 2012 subject to demand, with a full intake envisaged for September 2013.

On Tuesday (19 June), CECA Wales director Rhodri-Gwynn Jones participated in a further meeting of the Welsh Government's Value Wales-led Construction Procurement Strategy Steering Group. Discussion continued around a defined Construction Procurement Strategy, envisaged to be launched by the Welsh Government in the autumn of 2012, Building Information Modelling (BIM), Wales' public sector Capital Programme, and in particular the Welsh Government's 21st Century Schools Programme.
