The Queen’s Speech 2019

On Monday (14 October) Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II delivered the Queen’s Speech at the State Opening of Parliament in London.

In the speech, the Queen said: “To ensure that the benefits of a prospering economy reach every corner of the United Kingdom, my Ministers will bring forward a National Infrastructure Strategy. This will set out a long-term vision to improve the nation’s digital, transport and energy infrastructure.”

Among the Bills that the Government intends to pass that will be of interest to CECA members are measures relating to:

  • Education funding reform
  • National infrastructure strategy
  • Broadband
  • Railway reform
  • English devolution
  • High Speed Rail 2 (West Midlands – Crewe) Bill
  •  Environment Bill.

More details of the UK Government’s plans relating to the infrastructure sector will be set out in The National Infrastructure Strategy when it is published later this autumn, and which the Government has said will “deliver a step change in infrastructure investment across the whole of the UK.”

CECA will be monitoring this and other legislation of relevance to our members, and will keep members informed of developments.
