CECA Publishes Third Edition Of Industry-Standard Schedules Of Dayworks

The Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) has today announced the publication of the third edition of its industry-standard Schedules of Dayworks.

First published in an updated two-volume format in 2019, CECA’s Schedules of Dayworks have been widely adopted as the benchmark for incidental works where no pre-agreed rates exist. They include up-do-date labour, material, equipment, and supplementary charge rates.

The new edition for the first time includes a specific volume to cover equipment commonly used across the rail sector, developed in close collaboration with rail sector contractors and clients. The re-calibrated equipment and plant rates reflect the current cost environment, along with updated labour and materials charges.

Recognising the importance of keeping members equipped with professional tools at minimal costs, CECA is making free copies of the new Dayworks Schedules available to all CECA members. Non-members will be able to purchase copies via the CECA website.

The new edition enables:

  • Greater bidding flexibility – as contractors can competitively bid for projects even when detailed rates are absent in contract documentation;
  • Efficiency in delivery – with clear definitions of labour, plant, material, and ancillary charges;
  • Consistency across projects – with widely-accepted standard rates, helping to reduce disputes and uncertainty.

Commenting, Director of CECA Yorkshire & The Humber Jemma Carmody – who assisted with the development of the new edition – said: “CECA is delighted to publish this third edition, which reflects ongoing changes in plant and labour costs, and now fully integrates rail equipment items.

“These documents support civil engineering contractors in delivering infrastructure more efficiently, reducing risk, and enabling greater transparency and consistency – to the ultimate benefit of clients and taxpayers.

“It is also part of our commitment to provide maximum value to our members, by providing free access to the Schedules for CECA members.

“The infrastructure sector has in recent years been subject to cost volatility and the uncertainties this brings.  CECA’s new Schedules of Dayworks are designed to minimise these uncertainties and provide our members with the benchmarking they need to deliver world-class infrastructure on time and on budget, to the benefit of businesses and communities across the UK.”

CECA is indebted to Peter Crosland and members of the CECA Dayworks Committee who have generously contributed their time, expertise and insight over recent years. Their ongoing support has been instrumental in the development and delivery of this publication.
