CECA: Updated Infrastructure Pipeline Must Be Matched By Momentum In Delivery

Civils contractors today welcomed the latest update to the UK Infrastructure Pipeline, saying it provides a stronger basis for long-term planning across the sector, but must now be matched by clear funding commitments and projects moving to market at pace.

The updated pipeline sets out 734 planned projects worth £718 billion over the next decade and, for the first time, includes regional and sectoral workforce demand data to help industry plan future skills and capacity needs. This represents a significant increase in the value of projects included in the first iteration of the pipeline.

Commenting, Director of Policy & Public Affairs for the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) Ben Goodwin said: “Today’s update to the pipeline is a welcome step forward and gives industry a clearer picture of future demand.

“In particular, the inclusion of workforce data is a positive development that will help employers, clients and training providers better understand where skills and capacity will be needed in the years ahead.

“Improved visibility must now be matched by certainty on delivery. Our members need a dependable flow of work, backed by clear funding and efficient procurement, if they are to invest with confidence in people, skills and productivity.
