CECA’s 30 Projects for 30 Years’ series celebrates the infrastructure delivered by CECA members over the past three decades. This profile features the £47 million Long Stratton Bypass, delivered by Octavius for Norfolk County Council.
The new 4km bypass has eased longstanding congestion in the Norfolk town, taking through-traffic away from the centre and creating a safer, more pleasant environment for residents. Alongside two new bridges and improved walking and cycling links, the scheme will help support more than 1,800 planned new homes and future growth across South Norfolk.
Delivering benefits for the local community was central to the project. Almost £27 million was spent locally, while apprenticeships, student placements, educational workshops and community initiatives contributed to more than £25 million of measured local social value.
An approach focused on reducing carbon also achieved lifetime savings of 8,821 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent. The project demonstrates how CECA members deliver infrastructure that strengthens connectivity, supports local economies and creates lasting social and environmental benefits.
