The representative body for the UK’s civil engineering contractors has today announced the appointment of Ben Goodwin as its new Director of Policy and Public Affairs.
Ben has joined the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) at a crucial time for the UK’s infrastructure sector and further strengthens the organisation’s leadership team as it continues to represent the interests of its members and the wider construction industry.
Ben joins CECA following more than 15 years in senior policy and public affairs roles across the built and natural environment sectors. Most recently he served as Director of Policy and Public Affairs at the Institute of Sustainability and Environmental Professionals (formerly IEMA), where he led a multi-disciplinary team working with UK Government to deliver a greener economy.
His previous career includes six years at the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), where he headed the policy team, developing strategies to support the UK’s economic infrastructure networks and working with both Government and industry to drive investment and productivity improvements.
Ben has also served on a range of government advisory boards and industry initiatives and is a regular speaker at high-profile sector events and in the media.
Commenting on his appointment, Ben Goodwin said: “I am thrilled to be joining CECA at such a crucial time for our sector. Civil engineering contractors play a vital role in delivering the infrastructure that underpins the UK’s economy, society, and transition to net zero.
“I look forward to working with CECA members, our English regions and devolved nations, government at all levels and wider stakeholders to ensure the policy environment supports the industry’s ability to deliver sustainable economic growth, create jobs, and lead to better outcomes for businesses and communities in all parts of the country.”
Ross Markwell, Business Development Director for Esh Construction and Chair of CECA’s Chairs’ Strategic Forum, said: “We are delighted to welcome Ben to CECA. His extensive experience across infrastructure, sustainability, and government engagement will be invaluable as we continue to champion the interests of our members, and ensure the industry is equipped to meet future challenges.
“Ben’s appointment reflects CECA’s commitment to strengthening our voice with policymakers and securing a stronger UK infrastructure sector, and the best possible business environment for the nation’s civil engineering contractors.”
