CECA: Government Kick Starts Infrastructure Revolution By Approving HS2

Civil engineering contractors today welcomed confirmation of the ‘Notice To Proceed’ on High Speed 2 today.

The announcement marks formal approval for main construction works to begin in line with public health guidelines.

It follows the Government’s decision earlier this year to proceed with the project, following the publication of the Oakervee Review.

Commenting, CECA Director of External Affairs, Marie-Claude Hemming said: “We welcome this final confirmation by Government which means that main construction works can now begin on HS2.

“The scheme will act as the backbone of our recovery and will not only deliver transformational improvements to capacity and connectivity across the UK, but will support many thousands of jobs.

“HS2 is vital to this country’s future and will act as a springboard for the infrastructure revolution the Government has promised.

“At a time when we all face uncertainties due to the COVID-19 pandemic, today’s announcement signals confidence in restarting the UK economy, driving long term economic growth across the UK through an infrastructure revolution.”
