Following a series of meetings with stakeholders with an interest in the aviation sector, CECA has announced that it is to form an Airport Expansion Group for members.
Although the aviation sector has always formed a significant proportion of our members’ work, historically CECA has included its activities in the sector in its various sector forums.
However with the departure of the UK from the European Union, we anticipate that airport expansion will form a greater proportion of our members’ workloads in the coming years, and are keen to be able to represent our members in discussions with stakeholders and Government on a specialised basis.
Commenting, CECA Chief Executive Alasdair Reisner said: “This new group will act as a focal point for our work on behalf of our members working in the aviation sector, both providing them with a voice to direct policy, and meet stakeholders with an interest in airport expansion.
“Addressing the UK’s lack of aviation capacity after we leave the European Union will be fundamental to boosting growth and ensuring Britain remains globally competitive in terms of trade.
“Currently the UK loses an estimated £1.2 billion a year because of its shortfall in airport capacity, and airport expansion in the coming years will be key to ensuring the UK remains an attractive place to do business and to visit.
“CECA’s new Airport Expansion Group will provide our members with an avenue both to entering the sector, and to build on their existing experience in constructing, maintaining and upgrading airports across England, Scotland and Wales.”
