The CECA Rail Industry presentation will outline CECA Rail Director, Bill Free’s career progression and give an insight into the rail industry from the contractors’ point of view. Bill will provide examples of the type of work that civil engineers are responsible for and you may be surprised as to how varied and complex this can be. Case studies will be presented as well as discussions about the rail industry past, present and future. Finally, Bill will be happy to take questions about any of the issues raised.

Bill Free started his career in the mid-1970s and has, since leaving University, always worked for Civil Engineering contractors. His talk will firstly take you through this career, showing the different paths he followed before becoming firmly ensconced in the rail sector in the 1990s. The talk will also include a section on the different disciplines that Civil Engineers will come across if they choose to get involved in rail and an attempt to describe the labyrinthine contractual environment that governs interactions in the sector.

This event is open to all members and will take place via MS Teams. If you would like to book your place please contact Sharon Brown.

With this MS Teams event, all attendees will be muted throughout the presentation and there will be a Q&A session at the end through the raised hand function on MS Teams.
