Entries open for 2026 civil engineering awards

Entries are now open for the 2026 Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) North East Annual Awards.
Celebrating the outstanding projects, organisations and individuals driving excellence across the region’s civil engineering sector, the winners will be announced at the Awards Dinner on Friday 13 November 2026.
The awards bring together contractors, clients, consultants and supply chain partners for one of the highlights of the North East civil engineering calendar.
They recognise excellence across a broad range of disciplines, celebrating engineering achievement alongside innovation, sustainability, health and safety, training and the development of future industry talent.
Award categories for 2026 are:
- Project of the Year – Under £1 million
- Project of the Year – £1 million to £5 million
- Project of the Year – Over £5 million
- Social Value Initiative of the Year
- Health & Safety Initiative of the Year
- Environmental Initiative of the Year
- Training Initiative of the Year
- Subcontractor of the Year
- Lifetime Achievement/Outstanding Contribution
- Trainee Quantity Surveyor of the Year
- Trainee Civil Engineer of the Year
- Apprentice of the Year
The deadline for award submissions is Friday 25 September.

Every year we’re inspired by the quality and diversity of the entries, from major infrastructure projects and innovative initiatives to the achievements of individuals at every stage of their careers.
“These awards recognise the people and organisations that are making a real difference to our industry and I would encourage businesses of all sizes to put themselves forward. It’s a fantastic opportunity to celebrate success, share best practice and gain recognition from peers across the sector.”
The 2026 Annual Awards are supported by a number of leading organisations from across the civil engineering sector. Sponsors confirmed to date include A E Yates Limited Civil Engineering, Applebridge Family, MSF, STRABAG UK, Addison, BCE Northern Ltd and Southbay Civil Engineering Ltd. Sponsorship opportunities are still available for organisations wishing to support the Awards.
The evening, which includes a formal dinner, will also raise funds for the Great North Children’s Hospital, CECA North East’s chosen charity for 2026, reflecting the Association’s ongoing commitment to supporting the communities in which its members live and work.
In 2025, winners included Rainton Construction, which received four awards, including Project of the Year (Under £1 million) for the Locomotion Car Park, Project of the Year (Over £5 million) for the SeAH Wind Monopile Facility, as well as the Social Value Initiative of the Year award for its Social Value Programme and the Health & Safety Initiative of the Year award.
Other winners included Balfour Beatty, which won Project of the Year (£1 million–£5 million) for the HOW03 Hartlepool Artificial Nesting Structure (Kittiwake), Esh Construction (Environmental Initiative of the Year), Wyn Construction (Training Initiative of the Year) and BridgeCare (Subcontractor of the Year). Individual accolades went to Thomas Shanley of Wyn Construction (Trainee Quantity Surveyor of the Year), Ryan Jefferson of Rainton Construction (Trainee Civil Engineer of the Year) and Jordan Alderson of JN Bentley Ltd (Apprentice of the Year), while STRABAG UK received a Special Recognition Award for the Woodsmith Project.
CECA North East is one of eight regional branches of the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA), representing around 80 per cent of civil engineering activity across the region. Its members range from local SMEs to major national and international contractors, delivering and maintaining the infrastructure that underpins the North East’s economy and communities. CECA North East supports its members through advocacy, skills development, health and safety initiatives and by fostering collaboration across the industry.
