CECA recently attended the latest Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP) Workforce Development Partnership (WDP) forum in Abingdon, bringing together employers, educators and industry partners to discuss how AI is transforming the workplace.
One of the key discussion points was that, whilst AI has the potential to increase efficiency and transform how we work, it is unlikely to replace the need for experienced people. Instead, AI is expected to be most effective when combined with human judgement, industry knowledge and practical experience.
This presents an important challenge for the future workforce. New entrants may develop strong technical and digital skills, but they will still need the support and guidance of experienced professionals to build the commercial awareness and decision-making skills that AI cannot replicate.
The discussion also highlighted the need for businesses to find the right balance between embracing AI and adapting team structures to make the best use of it. Organisations that fail to adopt AI risk being left behind, but those that do will need to consider carefully how people and technology work together to unlock the greatest benefits.
