Listen to the story of Henry Staley, from Hornchurch in Essex, winner of the South West’s Most Promising Trainee Civil Engineer Award at the CECA South West Young Achievers’ ceremony in Torquay. Henry, who joined BAM Ground Engineering in Talerddig, Wales with a BSc in geology, impressed the award judges with his ability to translate complex geological data into practical civil engineering construction solutions. Using this expertise, he played a key role in a Network Rail cutting stabilisation scheme in Mid Wales which called for the installation of just under 2,000 rock bolts and 9,000 square metres of high tensile mesh in a very challenging and safety critical environment.
Paul Santer, CECA South West Regional Director, commented: “Henry is a shining example of how talent, professionalism and initiative is rewarded in the civil engineering construction industry. He is currently working towards Incorporated Engineer status and clearly has a very bright future ahead of him.”
The CECA South West Young Achiever Awards are presented annually in recognition of exceptional performance. As the winner of Most Promising Trainee Civil Engineer Award, sponsored by OCU Group, Henry received an inscribed trophy and cheque for £750.
