CECA Wales Annual Dinner and Awards 2026
Celebrating our “Most Promising” young people : the CECA Wales Awards 2026
The highlight of our Annual Dinner is our “Most Promising” Awards where we celebrate the brightest and best young people from across our sector.
We are extremely grateful to our sponsors : TRJ Ltd, Knights Brown, Walters UK, Jones Bros Ruthin and Griffiths Ltd, who supported our 2026 Awards. Diolch o galon i chi gyd!
The quality of applicants in 2026 was extremely high yet again and we’re seeing some categories significantly increasing in popularity.
This made the work of our judges incredibly difficult and, on behalf of the board of CECA Wales, we would like to thank :
- Gruff Rowlands of Ymgynghoriaeth Gwynedd Consultancy (YGC)
- Ian Thomas of Atkins Realis
- Rob Clover of Bridgend College
We couldn’t have done it without you!
So, on to the results!
Most Promising Trade Apprentice 2026
Without our trade apprentices, our groundworkers and machine drivers, nothing much happens in the world of civil engineering! This year we had an exceptional candidate in this category and a very clear winner. According to his employer :
“In all the time I have been mentoring apprentices, he is without doubt the most dedicated learner I have worked with. I see a supervisor in the making.”
This year, in a change to our usual format where awards are sponsored by our member businesses, we were very pleased that this year’s award for trade apprentice was sponsored by an infrastructure client, Tata Steel, who have a long history of supporting apprenticeships across Wales. The award was presented by Shankar Marai, Strategic Capex Director of Tata Steel UK, and the Chair of CECA Wales and Managing Director of TRJ, Dafydd Jones.
And the award for Most Promising Trade Apprentice 2026 went to : Liam Evans of Tarmac Ltd

Most Promising Trainee Quantity Surveyor 2026
We had a very good lineup for this award with six shortlisted candidates and although the standard of applicant was very high in this category the judges did identify a winner with the award for Most Promising Trainee Quantity Surveyor 2026 going to Jordan Jones of Andrew Scott.

Most Promising Trainee Civil Engineering Technician Award 2026
This category, proved, yet again, to be an extremely competitive category with a very strong lineup of six candidates and the judges were completely split on a winner. So, the award for Most Promising Trainee Civil Engineering Technician 2026 went, jointly, to :
Bedwyr Jones of Jones Bros Ruthin and Tom Webb of Walters UK Ltd

And last but definitely not least we had the Most Promising Trainee Civil Engineering Graduate Award 2026
For this award, we had seven shortlisted candidates of a very high standard, so this was also a very difficult category to judge as all those shortlisted brought some exceptional qualities and achievements to the table and should all feel rightly proud of being nominated.
Given how competitive this category continues to be the judges wanted to recognise a candidate with a high commendation and that went to Michael Hewitt of Griffiths. Unfortunately, Michael couldn’t be with us for the evening and so we don’t have a photo of him accepting his award but huge congratulations to him and to his employer, Griffiths Ltd.
However, there was a very deserved winner for the award for the Most Promising Trainee Graduate Civil Engineer 2026 which was Baraa Khodeer of Walters UK Ltd

Llongyfarchiadau/Congratulations to all of our winners and all shortlisted candidates.
CECA Wales Annual Dinner and Awards 2025
2025 was a “transition” year for us as we changed dates for our CECA Wales Awards from the autumn to the spring and hosted a Summer Lunch to “Celebrate the industry” rather than hosting an Awards Ceremony.
CECA Wales Annual Dinner and Awards 2024
Celebrating our “Most Promising” young people : the CECA Wales Awards 2024
