The CECA Wales Foundation Group is formed of six young Welsh professionals from civil engineering & construction companies operating across Wales.
What are the aims of the group?
- To promote the construction sector amongst young people.
- To develop future generations of professionals and encourage them into the industry.
- To represent the young professionals already in the industry.
- To promote apprenticeships, traineeships, and mid-career transitions.
- To connect like-minded people whose ambition is to future-proof Wales’ infrastructure.

Dylan Rigby
Occupation/Role – Setting-out Engineer
Company – Andrew Scott Ltd
Experience: one year as an Undergraduate Engineer; two years as an on-site Graduate Engineer
Notable Schemes: PECO Eco Park Waste Management Facility; Pentwyn Leisure Centre renovation & pool installation; CELSA Steel Manufacturing; Grade 1 Listed Cardiff City Hall heating & electrical renovation.
What is your favourite thing about working in construction?
Being part of a fantastic on-site team, firing on all cylinders, consistently constructing infrastructure to a high quality, efficiency.
Hobbies – Rugby, Surfing, STEM Ambassador, Concrete
What is your greatest career achievement so far?
My greatest achievement so far has been working across four different sectors of civil engineering in Wales. I am very grateful for the experience this has given me, as well as everything I’ve learned from the people I’ve been fortunate enough to work with. A notable standout has been the £28.5 million recycling facility we delivered in Pembrokeshire, comprising of a recycling transfer facility, covered waste bay (with an overall floor area of 5,855m2 and an external service yard area of 4,340m2), two-story office building, vehicle maintenance workshop, staff welfare building, all with associated access roads and infrastructure.
Gruff Roberts
Occupation/Role –Quantity Surveyor
Company – Walters
Experience: Five years as a Trainee Quantity Surveyor; two and a half years as a Quantity Surveyor
Notable Schemes: Haverfordwest Castle Link, Castle Back & Wayfinding; Haverfordwest Footbridge & Western Quayside Phase 2; Coed Ely – Highways & Infrastructure Works; Want Gwellion, Pontypridd – Culvert Replacement Works.
What is your greatest career achievement so far?
I am proud to have been part of the team that delivered this state of the art, one of a kind signature bridge in Haverfordwest. Measuring in over 30 meters in length and built with 120 tons of steel, the bridge was a central element of Pembrokeshire County Council’s vision to regenerate the Western Quayside and Riverside shopping area, driving growth and enhancing the town’s future prosperity. It was incredibly rewarding to mentor both an apprentice QS and a work placement student throughout the project, mentoring them as they gained practical experience on a live project. Additionally, being able to carry out my day to day role in Welsh alongside members of the site team was a source of particular pride.

Callum Maddocks
Occupation/ Role – Section Engineer
Company – Knights Brown Construction
Experience: 1.5 years industry placement; 1.5 years as a Graduate Engineer; one month as a Sectional Engineer
Notable Schemes: Rock Street Flood Alleviation; Dragon Energy Wind Farm
What is your favourite thing about working in construction?
I really enjoy how team-orientated the industry is and how every task is team-focused. The variety of projects and new challenges within Wales is also really exciting!
Hobbies – Travelling and exploring new countries, Gym and watching Swansea City
What is your greatest career achievement so far?
During my Year in Industry with Knights Brown, I was nominated for the Trainee Engineer of the Year with CECA Wales for my contribution throughout work placement. During this time, I had worked on a flood alleviation project in Glynneath which was an incredibly rewarding project.
Seeing our work having a truly positive impact to the local community is what really made me appreciate the importance of what we can deliver as Civil Engineers. The site team really embedded itself into the community and did whatever was required to minimise disruption and leave a positive, lasting impression.
Rhys Jones
Occupation/Role – Apprentice Quantity Surveyor
Company – CentreGreat
Experience: two years as an Apprentice Quantity Surveyor
Notable Schemes: Cathays Afa Scheme; Treherbert Staff Accommodation; J37-J38 Bridge Deck Refurbishment; Pillgwenlly Regeneration Project
What is your favourite thing about working in the construction industry?
I enjoy the mix of problem solving, teamwork, and the sense of achievement that the industry brings, especially the opportunity to collaborate with a diverse range of people toward a shared goal.
Hobbies – Rugby & Golf
What is your greatest career achievement so far?
My greatest achievement has been successfully contributing to and assisting aspects of multi-million-pound rail and civil schemes, engaging with subcontractors, and collaborating closely with colleges to ensure smooth project delivery.
Jac Beynon
Occupation/Role – Quantity Surveyor
Company – Jones Bros (Henllan) Ltd
Experience: two years as a Trainee Quantity Surveyor; 2.5 years as a an Assistant Quantity Surveyor
Notable Schemes: Jaguar Land Rover Showroom & Workshop; Aldi Llanelli – Civils & Groundworks; Varteg Road Culvert Replacement; Rhyd Y Blew Industrial Building
What is your favourite thing about working in the construction industry?
My favourite thing about working in this industry would be the different types of projects you could be working on, from Rail & civil engineering to new warehouses and showrooms, you will never get bored!
Hobbies – Rugby, Golf & Training
What is your greatest career achievement so far?
It has to be a new state of the art car showroom & workshop in Swansea for Land Rover. The project was very complex with many different subcontractors getting used to get the aesthetic that is common in these showrooms but it was very satisfying when it was handed over and we saw the first new cars been driven away.
Rebeca Jones
Occupation/Role – Quantity Surveyor
Company – Jones Bros Civil Engineering Ltd
Experience: two years as a Graduate Quantity Surveyor, including a placement year; three years as a Quantity Surveyor.
Notable Schemes: A470 Llechwedd to Blaenau Ffestiniog Active Travel; Uskmouth BESS; Afon Wysg BESS; Morlais Cydnerth Onshore Electrical Connection Package.
What is your favourite thing about working in construction?
I really enjoy being part of a collaborative team and having the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects across Wales. It’s rewarding to know that my work helps shape the future, and that sense of contribution makes me proud. I also value the fact that every project brings something new, new challenges and opportunities to keep learning and developing.
Hobbies – Exercising, baking, and spending time with my family, friends and dog.
What is your greatest career achievement so far?
One of my greatest career achievements is being honoured with the CECA Most Promising Trainee Quantity Surveyor award, as well as providing valuable commercial support to Jones Bros across multiple high-profile projects.
