Annual CECA Wales Golf Tournament 2023

All good things come to those who wait! And so it was at the Annual CECA Wales Golf Tournament 2023 held at Machynys Peninsula Golf Club on 10th October 2023. The original plan to hold the tournament on 20th September was well and truly scuppered as Storm Lee took charge and deluged the course just before “our day”. Anyway the weather for our rearranged tournament was perfect for the golfers : dry, mild and hardly any wind. No excuses then!

This year’s tournament was a step up in terms of team numbers with 18 registering for the day (unfortunately RMS Ltd couldn’t join us for the new date – next year gentlemen!). All in all we had teams from Forest Traffic, LBS Builders Merchants, ERH, Centregreat, Walters Group (x2), Encon, Kaymac, Hugh James, Andrew Scott (x2), Griffiths (x2), Knights Brown (x2), Crouch Waterfall, FCC Construction and Thomas Plant Hire.

And thanks to our sponsors : Thomas Plant Hire, LBS Builders Merchants, Crouch Waterfall and FCC Construction.

“Warm ups” for everyone on the driving range were provided courtesy of Andrew Scott Ltd and Walters Group – thanks to Mark and John, our Vice Chair and Chair respectively.

And so on to the golf. First off was LBS Builders Merchants, quickly followed by ERH and Forest Traffic.

Here we go!

The beauty of Machynys

And as the day draws to a close.

And the final green

And so on to the results

Our Longest Drive winner, for both 9th and 15th holes, was Rob Davies, guest of Griffiths Ltd. Thanks to sponsor FCC Construction.

Nearest the pin on the 7th was Paul Squires of Centegreat and, on the 17th it went to Ben Core of Crouch Waterfall. Thanks go to LBS Builders Merchants for sponsoring both holes.

The winner of the Best Team went, once again, to Knights Brown who have had great success in recent years. Prizes were awarded by our sponsor Thomas Plant Hire and presented by Sir Gareth Edwards and our Chair, John Griffiths.

Then on to the best individual scores sponsored by Crouch Waterfall.

The best guest score, with a massive 42 points, went to Jason Griffiths, guest of Encon Construction.  Congratulations Jason.

And last but definitely not least, with a score of 39 points, came Rob Hayman of Knights Brown who took the John Morgan Cup as best CECA Wales member for the fourth time. Congratulations Rob.

The evening concluded with a raffle draw made by Eirlys Edwards of CECA Wales’ Chosen Charity, the Sir Gareth Edwards Cancer Charity, with the prize of a 4-ball at Machynys going to Stuart Davies of Hugh James Solicitors. We managed to raise £1000 for the charity so huge thanks to all our guests including Andrew Scott Ltd who agreed to match the sum raised in the raffle!

Big thanks once again to all our sponsors : Thomas Carroll, Thomas Plant, Crouch Waterfall, LBS Builders Merchants and FCC Construction.

And thanks also to Mark Bowen of Andrew Scott Ltd for all his work behind the scenes making sure that the day went ahead effortlessly and to the team at Machynys, both on and off the course, who contributed to such a great event.

All in all a fantastic day for everyone concerned.

And guess what, it rained heavily the next day. Perfect timing!
